The Peruque Creek watershed is located in parts of Warren and St. Charles counties in Missouri. Peruque Creek is a tributary to Lake St. Louis, and to the Mississippi River.
The Peruque Creek Stream Team is helping gather local input on a draft plan to help reduce nonpoint source pollution within the watershed. Stream Teams United and Stormwater Solutions LLC facilitated a local stakeholder meeting via Zoom on January 7, 2025. If you were not able to attend this meeting and would like a copy of the minutes, please contact us at [email protected].
We are also collecting input on this questionnaire form. If you are interested in providing input or joining the stakeholder group, please fill out this form by February 7, 2025. Thank you!
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has announced the public comment period for a TMDL for Peruque Creek. See the notice below.
TMDL Public Notice Period Now Open Until March 10, 2025
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has drafted a total maximum daily load (TMDL) report for Peruque Creek (WBID 218) located in Warren and St. Charles Counties. The TMDL report is available for public review and comment. The department will accept written comments on the document through March 10, 2025. The TMDL report can be viewed online at https://dnr.mo.gov/public-notices-comments.
The TMDL report for Peruque Creek (WBID 218) addresses an Aquatic Macroinvertebrate Bioassessment impairment identified on Missouri’s 2022 Section 303(d) List of Impaired Waters. Interested parties should address comments to Sebastien Clos-Versailles, TMDL Unit Chief, and email comments to [email protected], or mail them to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Water Protection Program, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0176. Please provide contact information (i.e., name, address, and phone number) with all submitted comments.
TMDLs are watershed planning tools used to calculate the pollutant loading that a water body can receive and still meet water quality standards. The TMDL allocates the calculated loading to the various sources in the watershed and sets the goal for restoring water quality.
A supplemental 9-element watershed management plan is also available for Peruque Creek and Lake St. Louis, and provides guidance for achieving the TMDL’s nonpoint source loading targets. This document describes voluntary approaches that people living in the watershed can use to help reduce bacteria loading to the impaired streams. This document also identifies potential partnerships and funding sources. The TMDL’s point source targets will be implemented directly through the department’s Missouri State Operating Permit Program.
Additional information is available on the department’s TMDL website.
What is a nine-element (9E) watershed plan? A nine-element watershed plan is required to receive certain federal funding for stormwater related projects that serve to reduce nonpoint source pollution within a certain area. Learn more about Peruque Creek and the nine-elements of a plan in this six-page document.
